A few weeks ago, I booked an intimacy session with Lila, creator of horizontal with lila, a podcast on relationships, sex, and intimacy. I know Lila from her podcast and personally but it wasn’t until this session that I realized just how much knowledge Lila has accumulated from her years engaging with the sex positive community and interviewing intimacy experts, knowers, doers, and lovers of all kind. She has essentially created her very own internalized library of sex positive and relationship resources.
I’ve worked with various therapists, coaches, and counselors and the first thing I noticed about Lila’s approach was her deliberate and thorough process. I was asked to fill out an extensive form ahead of time and she came to the session with a Google Doc of resources just for me that she had prepared in advance based on that form. The Google Doc has become my new roadmap for intimacy exploration and I love it.
Lila helped me to set clear next steps and goals and she even gave me homework. We covered everything from what I wanted to explore to how to feel safe doing so, and how to build a community while exploring.
Perhaps most important to note is Lila’s bedside manner. She made me feel safe and she delighted in what I shared with her. It made me feel validated and able to share more.
At the end, I reflected on the therapists I’ve worked with (I’ve had very good ones and very bad ones) and I thought about how my conversations on sex with those therapists would so often fall short. I think it’s because those therapists just didn’t have the knowledge and experience of sex positive culture. Lila has that knowledge and that experience. She’s an excellent guide into wherever you may want to explore.
